The Gala Sports Night is on Wednesday 20th June, starting at 6.30pm, and is fun for any child who likes to race and a serious competition for any running enthusiasts. From children just starting primary school to children just leaving primary school there are competetive events with medals for 1st 2nd and 3rd.
For the running enthusiast there is the Gala Chase which is approximatly a 3 and a quarter mile run up to and around Wharncliffe Woods. This is a popular event that attracts over 40 competitors. With lots of categories and prizes for the best in each one, almost anyone has a chance of winning something!

The course starts in Coronation Park, proceeds uphill by road to Wharncliffe Woods, loops through the wood and then returns by road to the park, a total distance of approximately 3 and a quarter miles. There are prizes for the first in each category.
There are three categories of entry for the case:
Juniors Aged 14 to 16
Seniors Aged 17 and over
Veterans Aged 40 and over
Entry fees are as follows:
Adults: £2 *
Juniors: £1
Non club members £3
* for the member of a club affiliated to AAA.
Please register on Sports Night from 6:30 onwards. The race will start at 7.30.

Children's events start at 6.30pm. Children of all ages are invited to take part in a variety of races -egg and spoon, running, skipping, obstacle etc. Races will be divided into SCHOOL YEAR GROUPS, so listen out for your call. If you want to join in with a race, you MUST be wearing appropriate footwear - eg, trainers or plimsolls, and sensible clothing, if the Stewards feel that you are unsuitably dressed you will not be allowed to take part for your own and other's safety. Rosettes will be presented to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in all races. |
